Caring to Make a Difference Since 1919
Since its beginning over 88 years ago the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and its predecessors have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars and given immeasurable hours to benefit healthcare within the Saint John community. In excess of $3.9 million has been provided to the new Regional Hospital alone, for equipment and services since its opening in 1982.
The SJRH Auxiliary operates with a volunteer working Board of 18 Directors who serve on committees and are responsible for directing its activities. Membership of the auxiliary currently numbers just over 800.
The Auxiliary's primary purpose is to assist the hospital by providing funding for equipment, educational awards and patient comfort programs. Funds are raised through the Auxiliary's four businesses, bake and craft sales and from other special events. In 2007, the Auxiliary provided funding to the hospital of $156,049 for equipment for the Surgery Program, Oncology Program, Neuro/Rehab Program and Therapeutic Services, and $34,500 for Patient Comfort Programs and Education Awards. As well, the Auxiliary paid the first $50,000 if its $250,000 commitment towards the hospital Foundation's Pet/Ct Capital Campaign.
