A Tradition of Caring

Auxilians are members of the community who care about our hospital and contribute our time and talents in a variety of ways. The Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary has been raising funds for the benefit of the Saint John General Hospital, for more than 90 years.

A History of Giving...

  • The combination of a caring philosophy and business acumen has allowed the Auxiliary to provide annual funding for:

Patient Comfort Programs

The Auxiliary maintains a variety of programs which are designed to meet specific patient needs;These include:

  • Approximately 2,000 knitted hats for newborn babies each year;
  • Finger puppets and toys for paediatric patients in the Blood Collection and Emergency Areas;
  • Toe socks for patients receiving foot and leg casts;
  • Chemo hats for patients receiving chemotherapy and/ or radiation therapy;
  • Afghans for long term patients;
  • Christmas presents for hospitalized patients without families;
  • Financial assistance for the "Clown Care Program" which acts to increase morale of patients and their families;
  • A coffee cart for Radiation Oncology patients;
  • French and English newspapers for several areas of the hospital;
  • Transportation for patients requiring financial assistance to come to the hospital for their appointments;
  • Care and maintenance of the plants within the hospital and the Oncology Garden

Major Projects:

Over the past 29 years more than $4.9 million has been raised in support of the Saint John Regional Hospital to fund specialized projects initiated and requested by the staff of the hospital. The 2011 projects included:

1.jpg $49,868 to the Surgery Program for the purchase of a "Exera II Mobile Endoscopy Workstation" A mobile unit which provides increased quality of procedural visualization for the physician and increased accuracy in diagnosis and treatment for the patient

OEC-9600-C-Arm.jpg $9,884 to Emergency Services for the purchase of a "C Arm V Ray Stretcher" This technology is required to allow full utilization of new equipment and to reduce patient risk due to transfer, and radiation
AllanLosier-RoderickDoucet.jpg $25,000 to Diagnostic Imaging for the purchase of a "Vacuum Assisted Mammography Biopsy" (VABB) Device This device compliments the new MRI to provide a minimally invasive breast biopsy which allows for more accurate diagnosis of early breast cancer
