A Tradition of Caring
Auxilians are members of the community who care about our hospital and contribute our time and talents in a variety of ways. The Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary has been raising funds for the benefit of the Saint John General Hospital, for more than 90 years. More than four million dollars has been raised through various events organized by these dedicated community members.
A History of Giving...
- This combination of a caring philosophy and business acumen has allowed the Auxiliary to provide annual funding for:
- Patient Comfort Programs:
The Auxiliary maintains a variety of programs which are designed to meet specific patient needs;These include:
- Tops for Tots- which has provided over 2,000 tops and layettes for newborn babies;
- Special baby kits for families who have experienced a still-birth;
- Finger puppets and toys for paediatric patients;
- “Care Clown” Program which acts to increase moral by having volunteers visit the wards dressed as clowns;
- Heart monitor sacks for Cardiac Services;
- Toe socks for patients receiving foot and leg casts;
- Christmas presents for patients without families;
- Chemo hats for patients receiving chemotherapy;
- A coffee cart for Radiation Oncology patients;
- French and English newspapers for several areas of the hospital;
- Transportation for patients requiring financial assistance to come to the hospital for their appointments;
- Care and maintenance of the Oncology Garden
Major Projects:
Over the past 29 years more than $4.5 million has been raised in support of the Saint John Regional Hospital to fund specialized projects initiated and requested by the staff of the hospital. These projects have included but are not exclusive to:
- 75th Anniversary project -Multi-Faith Chapel ($250,000)
- Oncology Virtual Windows- featured to the right provides patients with a means of escape during radiation treatment; they provide a connection to the outside world.
- Chemo Chairs
- Oncology Garden
- PET/CT ($250,000)
